Commercial Solar PV Installation

Businesses use most of their electricity during the working day, which is exactly when solar panels generate. That close match between supply and demand is why commercial solar often makes a stronger case than domestic, and why more facilities managers and finance directors are putting it on the agenda.

Our commercial solar treatment process

Step 1 Contact

Step 1 Contact

Book a site survey or call 03335775805. Send us your half-hourly consumption data and tariff details so we can model how your site uses power through the day.

Step 2 The Quote

Step 2 The Quote

We assess the roof or ground area, structure and grid connection, then issue a fixed quotation with the system design, export arrangements and programme set out clearly.

Step 3 The Works

Step 3 The Works

Our NICEIC-approved engineers install the array and inverters, then make the final connection to your distribution board at an agreed time, out of hours if required.

Step 4 After care

Step 4 After care

The system is tested and commissioned, and you receive commissioning records, certification, G99 sign-off and system documentation for your compliance and asset records.

Why solar suits commercial premises

  • Generation matches demand. Lighting, IT, refrigeration and air conditioning all run during daylight hours, so most of what the panels produce is used on site.
  • Large, unused roof space. Warehouse and industrial roofs are often ideal, with wide, unshaded areas.
  • Predictable costs. Every unit generated on site is a unit you don't buy at commercial rates.
  • Visible commitment to sustainability. Many tenants, customers and procurement teams now ask what a business is doing to reduce its carbon footprint.

We don't put numbers on returns until we've seen your site and your consumption data. Any figures we give you will be based on your building, not a brochure.

Designed from your energy data

A good commercial system starts with how your site actually uses power. We ask for your half-hourly consumption data, review your tariff and look at when your demand peaks. From there we size the array to keep self-consumption high, so you're using what you generate rather than exporting it cheaply.

We'll also look at whether battery storage adds value for your site, for example if you have evening or weekend loads. See solar battery storage.

Roof, ground and car park installations

Roof-mounted systems

The most common option. We assess the roof structure, covering and remaining lifespan before recommending a mounting system. Some roofs need a structural engineer's report before installation, and we'll tell you early if yours does.

Ground-mounted arrays

For sites with spare land, ground mounting makes panel orientation and maintenance easier and avoids any load on the building.

Solar car ports

Car ports generate power while sheltering vehicles, and pair naturally with workplace EV charging. See commercial and workplace EV charging.

Grid connection and G99 applications

Commercial systems are almost always large enough to need approval from the network operator before installation, under the G99 process. The application looks at how much your system could export and whether the local network can take it. In some areas, export has to be limited.

We prepare and submit the G99 application, deal with the network operator's questions and design the system around whatever export limit is agreed. It's one of the parts of a commercial project that most often causes delays, so we start it early.

Minimal disruption to your operation

We plan installations around your business. Scaffolding, deliveries and roof work are scheduled to avoid your busiest periods, and the final connection to your distribution board is carried out at an agreed time, out of hours if needed, so power is only off when you've planned for it.

Our engineers work to your site rules, provide risk assessments and method statements, and keep access routes and car parks safe throughout.

After installation

You'll receive full commissioning records, test results and system documentation, plus monitoring so you can track generation against consumption. We can also provide ongoing maintenance and inspection, which protects output and keeps your records up to date for insurers. See solar panel repairs and maintenance.
