High Voltage (HV) Services
If your site takes its supply at high voltage, you own and are responsible for the HV equipment on your side of the network operator's boundary. That means substations, ring main units, switchgear and transformers that need to be operated, maintained and tested by people who are competent to do it.
Your HV equipment, safely managed
ICE Electrical provides HV switching, maintenance and testing for industrial and commercial sites across London and the South East. We work under formal safety rules, plan every operation in detail and keep your site's HV records in order.

Our high voltage (hv) treatment process
Step 1 Contact
Tell us about your HV equipment, existing records and any upcoming shutdown. We visit site to review the substation, switchgear and safety rules in place.
Step 2 The Quote
You receive a fixed quotation for the switching, maintenance and testing, along with the outline programme and any temporary power needed during the shutdown.
Step 3 The Works
Switching programmes are written and agreed in advance, then authorised persons carry out the work under permits-to-work and restore supply on schedule.
Step 4 After care
You receive maintenance and test records, transformer oil results and a condition report, with switching and permit documentation kept for your HV records.

Safe systems of work for HV
High voltage leaves no margin for error. HSE guidance, including HSG230 on keeping electrical switchgear safe, expects HV systems to be operated under written safety rules, with clear responsibilities and controls.
HV switching is carried out by authorised persons (APs), working to switching programmes that have been written, checked and agreed before the day. Senior authorised persons (SAPs) take responsibility for issuing permits-to-work and sanction-for-test documents, so everyone knows exactly what has been isolated, where it has been earthed and who can work on it.
If your site doesn't have its own HV safety rules or authorised persons, we can help you understand what you need and how to put it in place.
Maintenance that prevents failures
HV equipment is reliable, but it isn't maintenance free. Switchgear mechanisms stiffen, insulation deteriorates and transformer oil degrades with age and heat. A failure on the HV side usually means the whole site goes dark.
Our maintenance programme is based on the manufacturer's guidance and the condition of the equipment. It typically includes visual inspection, cleaning, operation and lubrication of switchgear, insulation resistance testing and transformer oil analysis. You receive a condition report highlighting anything that needs attention, so repairs and replacements can be budgeted rather than forced on you.
Planned shutdowns
Most HV maintenance needs the supply off. We plan shutdowns well in advance with your operations team, liaise with the network operator where needed, and arrange temporary generation if critical loads must stay on. The switching programme, timings and responsibilities are agreed beforehand, so the day itself runs to plan and power is restored on schedule.
Shutdowns are also a good time to carry out other work that needs the site dead, such as fixed wire testing of main switchboards or thermal imaging follow-up repairs.
