Door Entry & Intercom Systems
In a block of flats, the door entry system is used dozens of times a day, by residents, visitors, couriers and contractors. When it fails, it's the first thing people complain about. When it's well designed, nobody notices it at all.
A door entry system nobody complains about
ICE Electrical installs, upgrades and repairs door entry and intercom systems for residential blocks, offices, gated developments and commercial units across London and the South East.

Our door entry & intercoms treatment process
Step 1 Contact
Book a site survey or call 03335775805. Tell us about the building, the number of flats or units and what isn't working with the current system.
Step 2 The Quote
We recommend audio, video or app-based door entry and send a fixed quote, including whether existing wiring can be reused to save cost.
Step 3 The Works
Our engineers install the entrance panel, lock, power supply and indoor units or app, working floor by floor to keep disruption to residents low.
Step 4 After care
We test every call and door release, set up trades button times and remote management, then provide as-fitted records and user guidance.

Types of door entry system
Audio door entry
A call panel at the entrance and a handset in each flat or office. Simple, reliable and the lowest cost to install and maintain.
Video door entry
Adds a camera at the entrance and a screen in each property, so residents can see who's calling before they let them in. Increasingly expected in new and refurbished blocks.
Smartphone and app-based systems
Calls go to residents' mobiles instead of, or as well as, an indoor handset. Residents can let in a delivery from work or let a visitor in while they're upstairs. These systems also reduce wiring inside flats, which is useful in occupied buildings.
Combined access control
Door entry panels can include a fob or keypad reader, so residents use one device to get in and visitors use the call panel. See access control for more.
Features for blocks of flats
- Trades buttons that release the door during set hours for postal deliveries, then lock it again
- Digital panels with a searchable resident list, instead of rows of buttons
- Remote management, so managing agents can add or remove residents without a site visit
- Concierge or caretaker stations that receive calls when residents don't answer
- Vandal-resistant panels for exposed or high-traffic entrances
Upgrading an old system
Many older blocks still run analogue systems with handsets that are no longer made. When a handset fails, finding a replacement can be harder than replacing the whole system. We'll assess the existing wiring and tell you whether an upgrade can reuse it, or whether a wireless or app-based system would cause less disruption to residents.
Offices, gated sites and commercial units
Door entry isn't just for flats. In a shared office building, a panel at reception or the main door lets each tenant answer their own visitors without a receptionist. On gated developments and yards, a weatherproof panel at the gate can open a powered gate or barrier, with the call answered from the office or a mobile. We'll make sure the panel is positioned for drivers as well as pedestrians, and that the gate's own safety devices are respected.
Safe exits and reliable power
The lock on a main entrance is part of the building's escape route. We fit locks that allow free exit from inside at all times and, where needed, link the door to the fire alarm so it releases when the alarm activates. Power supplies include battery backup, so the system keeps working through short power cuts.
