Factory & Warehouse Electrical Installations

A new production line, a mezzanine floor, an extra loading bay or a full fit-out of an empty shed. Each one starts with the same question: can the electrical installation support it?

Getting the distribution right

Industrial sites often grow in stages, and the electrical installation grows with them, one board and one cable at a time. Ten years later nobody is quite sure what's fed from where, and there's no spare capacity left.

We start with the load. We look at what you have now, what you're adding, and what you're likely to add in the next few years. From there we design the distribution: main switchboards, sub-mains, distribution boards and final circuits, with discrimination between protective devices so a fault on one machine trips that machine, not the whole building.

Where large inductive loads are involved, we'll also look at power factor. Poor power factor can lead to reactive power charges on your electricity bill, and power factor correction equipment is often a sensible part of a larger upgrade.

Containment that suits the building

Warehouses and factories need cable routes that can be reached, extended and inspected. Depending on the building and the loads, we install:

  • Busbar trunking for production areas where machines move or are added, with tap-off units that make new connections quick
  • Cable tray and cable basket for main runs at high level and through plant areas
  • Steel conduit and trunking where cables need extra mechanical protection at low level

Working on an operational site

Most of our industrial installations happen in buildings that are already in use. We agree working areas, access routes and exclusion zones with your site team before we start, and we use mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) operated by trained operatives for high-level work.

Any shutdowns are planned and agreed in advance, with a clear list of what will be off and for how long. If something can be switched over at a weekend instead of a weekday, we'll plan it that way.

Handover you can use

At the end of the project you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate, the schedule of test results, updated distribution board charts and as-fitted drawings. That information makes the next project, inspection or fault far easier to deal with. Once the installation is live, a planned maintenance contract and periodic fixed wire testing keep it in good condition.

Why ICE Electrical for your factory or warehouse

  • Load and capacity planned for growth, not just today's equipment
  • Distribution designed so one fault doesn't stop the whole site
  • Containment chosen for access and future changes
  • Work phased around deliveries, shifts and production
  • NICEIC-approved engineers, with full certification and as-fitted drawings at handover
